Purpose: Being able to perform a handspring vault on their own, even it not perfect, will develop confidence in the student. If they know they only have a soft vault to hit with hands, head or back, they will feel more ready to try harder and go for it with less bends and more speed. If it's easy to get over a 4 ft, low vault trainer, they may try a longer, 6 ft setup that is still low. Using competitive height vault stations, or tables to soon, just makes the student more apprehensive and more likely to baulk.
