Purpose: In order to reach a full handstand on the bar the body must be completely over the head and shoulders and form a straight line before straddling up to a full handstand. For beginners, practicing on the ground first with the feet at an elevated height helps the athlete work proper shapes such as the shoulder lean and aligning the body over the head before straddling up to the handstand.
