The Air Barrel is a versatile tool to teach gymnasts, cheerleaders and dancers body awareness and control. Unlike traditional foam shapes that absorb energy, the Air Barrel is bouncy, which gives athletes a little more help when learning their all-important back handspring. The Air Barrel also gives athletes a more forgiving landing on a variety of skills.

The Air Barrel is perfect for our small gym! The 35in barrel was just the right size for our tumbling group and super budget friendly for this new start-up. Every gym needs one (or 3!)

OUR REPLY: Thanks C. Cuddeback! We think everyone needs 3 Air Barrels too!
Coaches save yourselves from the pains of spotting so many BHS, FHS, Tucks, walkovers and more with the air barrel!! I ordered the largest one and was nervous it was going to be too big for some of my kids but with the help of a spotting block they can stand on and it’s great! Plus it really makes them push through their shoulders and we all know how hard that can be to get across sometimes. Super happy with this purchase!!

OUR REPLY: Dear C. Hocutt- Thanks for this helpful review! It's sometimes hard to know what size to get. However, we like to recommend to go big, because as you've found out, with a folded tumbling mat or spotting block, smaller athletes can still use it!
The size of the Air Barrel is great for smaller clientele working to climb through heights, but need a firm, soft surface to feel stable when exploring space.
When straddling the barrel the hips are externally rotated and the pelvis is stabilized in an optimal position to encourage efficient lateral flexion and rotation of the trunk.
Sitting on the Air Barrel provides a small amount of proprioception and requires children to maintain their balance. This keeps their arousal up and therefore helps them to maintain engagement in the activity.
